Health officials issue COVID-19 warnings to those who participate in the Waukegan basketball tournament

The Lake County Department of Health is encouraging those who attended the basketball tournament in Waukegan last week to self-quarantine at home until June 28, as those who attended the event were COVID-19 positive.

The event was “Above The Rim Classic” and was held on Sunday 14th June at Belvidere Park.

Health officials not only quarantine people attending the event until Sunday, but also monitor their health and provide health care providers if symptoms such as fever, chills, coughs, shortness of breath, dyspnea, fatigue, or muscles occur. It is recommended to contact or with body pain, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

Symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after being exposed to the virus.

According to the Department of Health, those who experience symptoms are tested for COVID-19, limit contact with other people at home, avoid contact with vulnerable people, and leave home to seek testing or medical care. Please cover your face at times.

“This pandemic is far from over,” said Mark Pfister, director of the Lake County Department of Health. “The virus is still widespread in our community, and if we fail to watch, we can see cases in Lake County and deaths begin to increase again.”

The Health Department also recommends that everyone who participates in a recent protest or demonstration be examined 5-7 days after the event, or immediately if symptoms develop. If tested immediately after being published, the virus may go undetected and result in a false negative.
