Texas health officials said Tuesday that they had identified the first case of monkeypox in the state, but said the disease does not currently pose a risk to the general public.
The incident was confirmed by a resident of Dallas County who recently traveled abroad, according to the report. Texas Health Department.. This department is working with the Dallas County Health and Welfare Services and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to investigate cases.
Health officials also said they have identified “a few” people who may have been exposed to the virus in Dallas. Officials said they are monitoring themselves for the symptoms of the infection.
In May, several cases of monkeypox were reported in countries that did not report the disease on a regular basis. According to the World Health Organization, this is not typical of the past pattern of monkeypox. The organization works with all affected countries, including the United States, to provide guidance on how to investigate outbreaks and prevent and care for the spread of infected individuals.
According to WHO, the risk of this outbreak is low. Monkeypox is usually not considered highly contagious because it requires close physical contact with the infected person for the spread of the infection.
