The risk of monkeypox colonization in non-epidemic countries is real, and WHO warned Wednesday that more than 1,000 cases were identified in such countries.

“Currently, some countries are beginning to report cases of obvious community infections, including cases of women.”

Greece on Wednesday became the latest country to confirm the first case of the disease, where health officials said a man who had recently traveled to Portugal and was hospitalized in a stable condition was involved.

Early symptoms of monkeypox include high fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a chickenpox-like rash.

Tedros said he was particularly concerned about the risks the virus poses to vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and children.

He suggested that the sudden and unexpected appearance of monkeypox outside the endemic country may have been an undetected infection for some time, but how long it has not been known. Said.
