Bird flu has been detected in the township of Langley, the third municipality in Lower Mainland, to address a highly contagious viral infection.

On Wednesday, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirmed the presence of the virus at a commercial poultry operator in Langley Township.
Recent outbreaks occur shortly after recently reported cases in small herds of Summerland, Sechelt, and Peace River.
This virulent strain of bird flu, which is sweeping North America, was first reported in the rural area of North Okanagan on April 13 BC. Since then, herds of Kelowna, Coutony, Comox Valley, Okanagan Simil Kameen, Richmond and Abbotsford have been reported.
According to experts, migratory birds are the cause of the current spread, and there are cases where it is expected to increase as birds fly north in the summer.
British Columbia’s Ministry of Agriculture has ordered commercial poultry operators to move their herds indoors. He also advises on other measures, such as reducing human access to poultry herds and enhancing cleaning and hygiene.

According to the CFIA, 94 locations in Canada have been infected so far, 15 of which are infected in BC (not including the latest case of Langley Township). About 102,000 birds were released in BC and more than 2 million birds were released in Canada.
