Health officials have identified two cases of measles in Hennepin County

According to MDH, both preschool-aged children developed symptoms after the recent return of measles from a common country.
Officials say the children have not been vaccinated against measles and one has been hospitalized.
State and local health authorities are currently working to notify other people who may have been exposed.
MDH states that the risk to the general public due to the case is low because the children were isolated at the onset of symptoms, but healthcare providers remain vigilant against other patients with signs of measles. I haven’t neglected.
Early symptoms usually include high fever, cough, runny nose, and watery eyes, after which the rash spreads from the head to the rest of the body.
According to MDH, it takes 8-12 days for symptoms to appear, and it can take several more days for a rash to appear. Later, coughing, talking, or being in the same room as the infected person can spread the disease.
MDH officials say there are concerns that lower vaccination rates during the COVID-19 pandemic may increase the number of children susceptible to diseases such as measles.
“This case emphasizes the importance of being vaccinated against diseases that can be prevented by vaccines such as measles,” state epidemiologist Dr. Ruth Linfield said in a statement. “Vaccines are very effective in preventing measles. To protect all children in Minnesota, it is important to work to bring immunization rates back where they are needed.”
The department is asking Minnesota to check vaccination records to make sure they and their children have been vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR).
According to MDH, four measles cases have occurred in Minnesota since the 2017 outbreak.
