When the flu season comes, the emergency medical team has an important message
Ambulance services across the country are participating in national campaigns to save lives.
As Australia enters the winter with COVID-19 and the flu, we are calling on the community to save triple zero (000) in case of an emergency.
Paramedics, first responders, and emergency medical dispatchers from eight state and territory services have united in a video and launched a campaign through the Paramedic Authority Council (CAA).

Yvette D’Ath, Minister of Health and Emergency Services, said the campaign reflects the COVID-19 limits, surges, and the surprising impact of demands on health services and health professionals over the past two years.
“Queensland has done a great job through this pandemic,” she said.
“As COVID-19 and the arrival of the flu season put more pressure on hospitals and the workforce, this campaign is a timely reminder to access the right services in non-urgent situations.”
Patient Safety and Quality Tony Hacker, QAS Director, said the campaign aims to ensure that the community is on the right path of care for them.
“Ambulances are for emergencies and we always prioritize those who are seriously ill or injured,” he said.
“Others who want access to our services for non-urgent incidents may be advised on other routes to ensure that they receive the most appropriate and appropriate care for their situation. ..
“This may call 13 HEALTH. You will have to wait a little longer for ambulance service while treating high priority people, or access private transportation if safe and appropriate.”
Hackers said the message was even more important and is expected to drive increased demand for the next flu season.
“It’s more important than ever to make sure you’re vaccinated against the flu, stay healthy, and save triple zero (000) in case you have these serious symptoms,” he said. Said.
“Many of the minor symptoms of the flu can be managed at home or with the help of a pharmacist such as a sore throat or runny nose.
“There are some symptoms that should not be ignored. If you have shortness of breath, severe headaches, confusion, fainting, chest pain, or hemoptysis, call an ambulance immediately.”
CAA CEO David Waters said it was the first time that all states and territories have joined forces to give people access to emergency care when they need it most.
“I encourage all Australians to follow the advice of local ambulance services on the best way to seek care when not in an emergency,” he said.
