Washington, June 22 (Reuters)-The Biden administration announced on Wednesday that it would expand its monkeypox testing capabilities to five commercial laboratories as cases grow.
As of Tuesday, 142 cases of monkeypox have been reported in 24 states and the United States in Washington, DC. The first US case was reported to the CDC on May 17.
“All Americans need to worry about monkeypox cases. Thankfully, we now have the tools to fight and treat cases in the United States,” said Secretary of Health and Welfare Xavier Becerra. Said. “By dramatically expanding the number of inspection sites nationwide, anyone in need of inspection will be able to inspect.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has begun shipping monkeypox tests to five companies (Aegis Science, Labcorp, Mayo Clinic Laboratories, Quest Diagnostics). (DGX.N) Said Sonic Healthcare, HHS.
HHS said healthcare providers will have access to these laboratories by early July.
“It will dramatically expand testing capabilities across the country and make testing more convenient and accessible to patients and healthcare providers,” HHS said.
Outbreaks of viral disease have been reported in more than 3,000 confirmed cases in more than 40 countries where monkeypox is not endemic. The World Health Organization will decide on Thursday whether to declare monkeypox a global health emergency.
Monkeypox spreads through close contact and was first found in monkeys, but most occur in West Africa and Central Africa and, very rarely, spread elsewhere. read more
