The spread of COVID-19 will once again push Travis County to a moderate threat level.
Travis County has been yo-yoing between low and medium levels of community spread COVID-19 for the past three weeks.
On Thursday, the county returned to medium levels after a week’s rest at low levels.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention uses key statistics to set community spread levels by county. We will examine the infection rate for 7 days, which is the number of cases per 100,000 people. Beyond 200 cases, the county is at medium level.
This week, Travis County reached 206.29. Last week, that number was 190.12. The county reached moderate levels at 202.99 for the first time since the CDC launched this new measurement system at the end of February last week.
The Hayes, Williamson, and Caldwell counties are also at moderate levels. Bastrop County is at a low level.
However, that number is not close to what Central Texas experienced during the January Omicron surge. For several days, the infection rate was over 1,000 per 100,000 people.
The CDC will also look at new COVID-19 hospitalizations and the proportion of manned beds in COVID-19 patients.
Hospitalization in the metropolitan area is also increasing. The number of new hospitalizations for 7 days per 100,000 was 5.8. Last week it was 4.9 and June 9th was 4.0. The 7-day rate of hospital beds among people with COVID-19 was 2.5%. Last week it was 2.1%. June 9th was 1.5%.
On Thursday, 92 people with COVID-19 infection, including 21 new hospitalizations, were hospitalized, 14 in the intensive care unit and 3 on ventilator. The 7-day hospitalization rate was 82.3. Most of the time in April and May, the 7-day hospitalization rate was in the 30s and over 20s.
What is the difference between low and medium?
For the latest people vaccinated with COVID-19:
low: It is optional to take precautions when gathering, eating and shopping.
Moderate: Precautions for meetings, meals and shopping are optional. However, wear a mask if social distance is not possible.
high: Be careful when gathering, eating, and shopping.
For high-risk people:
low: Precautions for meetings, meals and shopping are optional.
Moderate: Be careful when gathering, eating, and shopping.
high: Be careful when gathering, eating, and shopping.
Precautionary measures mean wearing a mask, socially distanced, and avoiding crowded situations.
“We all, especially those at high risk, need to play our part,” said Dr. Desmar Walkes of the Austin Travis County Health Department. We know that this helps protect our loved ones and our hospital system at risk of poor outcomes. ”

What does it take to reach a high level of dissemination?
To achieve a high level of dissemination, the county needs to:
- • The number of new cases per 100,000 is over 200.
- • The 7-day average of new COVID hospitalizations exceeds 10 per 100,000. Travis County is currently 5.8.
- • COVID-19 people occupy 10% of the staffed hospital beds. Travis County is currently 2.5%.
What is causing the spread?
We will meet again this summer and travel. The children are in the summer camp. I have returned to a life that looked more like 2019 than in 2020 or 2021.
Travis County currently has BA.2, BA.4, and BA.5 versions of the Omicron variants, which are highly contagious. BA.4 and BA.5 definitely caused cases of COVID-19 in Europe this spring.
COVID-19 Tracking:As the number of cases increases, new COVID-19 Omicron variants will emerge in Travis County.
What can you do to control the spread?
Anyone over 6 months can be vaccinated. Last week, both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for the youngest children were approved.
Everyone over the age of 5 is eligible to be vaccinated 5 months after the original series and is eligible for booster immunization (most people are vaccinated twice with the mRNA vaccine and their immunity is weakened. Those who have been vaccinated 3 times). Adults over the age of 50 can get a second booster 4 months after the first booster.
Vaccines of all ages are available at Austin Public Health, Old Sims Elementary Walkup Clinic, 1203 Springdale Road, Wednesday and Thursday from 2pm to 7pm, and Saturday from 11am to 3pm.
vaccination:Children aged 6 months to 4 years were eligible for the COVID vaccine. Here’s what you need to know:
According to experts, vaccination helps prevent serious illness and death. That is the real goal of the vaccine. It is to prevent hospitalization and death while making the hospital available to patients other than COVID-19.
If you feel sick, take the COVID-19 test at either Austin Public Health, your GP, laboratory, pharmacy, or home exam (although Austin is starting to run out again). ..
Tests are available at Mets Elementary from Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 7pm at Austin Public Health. 84 Robert T Martinez Junior Cent Test is free on the site.
You can also take a free home test at hand through the US Government.
Know when to quarantine or quarantine
Quarantine if you are in close contact with someone who has been tested positive for COVID-19 but has not yet been tested positive. You will need to quarantine for a full 5 days and then wear a mask for the next 5 days. If you have been infected with COVID-19 in the last 3 months, you do not need to quarantine unless you have symptoms, but you do need to wear a mask for 10 days.
If the test is positive, you will be in quarantine even if you have no symptoms. You should quarantine for a full 5 days and then continue to quarantine until the test results are negative and the fever is gone for 24 hours. To be on the safe side, wear a mask for the next 5 days.
The day when the test is positive or the day when quarantine is required is considered day 0. The next day is the first day.
