The Dallas County Health Human Services said it had confirmed a case of monkeypox from an out-of-state visitor in town for the Papaland Festival on the weekend of July 4.
According to people familiar with the matter, the person reported attendance at festivals and other private parties. The visitor went to a hospital in Dallas with a rash and was diagnosed with the virus by laboratory tests.
“Given the size of the Papaland Festival, other people attending the event were exposed to monkeypox and could probably have been infected,” the agency said in a press release.
The festival included high-risk events such as dance parties, pool parties and nightclub events.
Dallas County had previously reported four cases of monkeypox among its inhabitants. All four cases were reported by self-identifying men who had sex with other men. According to the agency, monkeypox can affect anyone regardless of sexual orientation and can be spread by fluids, monkeypox pain, fluid-contaminated shared items, or monkeypox person pain. there is.
