Manitoba Expands Eligibility for Influenza Vaccination for All Adults Over 65-Winnipeg
The Manitoba state government has said it will expand its eligibility for high-dose influenza vaccines this fall.
Health Minister Audrey Gordon said in a statement Wednesday that the new qualifications include all adults over the age of 65. This is a change from the current rules that limit high-dose vaccines to people of that age group who meet certain requirements such as longevity. Long-term care or support housing.
“We will continue to make decisions about Manitoba’s vaccination efforts, based on the guidance of public health experts,” Gordon said.
“Planning for this fall’s seasonal flu campaign is already on track, and this is an important change to protect more older people.”
The new eligibility rules are in line with the latest recommendations from the National Advisory Board on Immunity.
“There is ample evidence that high-dose flu vaccines provide better protection for the elderly compared to standard-dose flu vaccines,” said Dr. Brent Lusan, the state’s chief public health director.
