Singapore confirms another imported case of monkeypox
Singapore-On Thursday (July 7), the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed another imported case of monkeypox in Singapore.
The patient is a 36-year-old Indian man who lives in Singapore and recently returned from the United States, MOH said.
He tested positive for monkeypox on Thursday and is currently in the ward at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NCID).
According to the ministry, the man has nothing to do with previous cases of monkeypox. He added that contact tracing is underway.
“This case developed anal discomfort on June 28, and other symptoms, including the rash typical of monkeypox, gradually progressed over the next few days,” MOH said.
On Wednesday, the man sought medical care and was taken to NCID on the same day.
Last month, Singapore reported the first case of imported monkeypox since 2019-a 42-year-old British man working as a flight attendant.

He tested positive on Wednesday and is currently hospitalized in NCID. His condition is stable.
Not all three cases are linked.
The MOH said the risk of monkeypox infection remains low given the need for close physical or long-term contact.
Monkeypox is a self-limited illness that usually recovers within 2-4 weeks, but a small proportion of infected patients can become seriously ill or die, MOH said.
Particularly vulnerable to complications are infants, pregnant women, or people with immunodeficiency.
MOH added that the monkeypox situation will continue to be closely monitored and public health responses will be adjusted as needed.
Returnees, especially those from areas affected by monkeypox, should see a doctor immediately if they develop any symptoms of any illness within 3 weeks of returning and inform the doctor of their recent travel history. please.
These symptoms include sudden high fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a rash.
