LA County COVID-19 cases sway at the edge of “high” levels
Increasing cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County, county health officials are considering the obligation to wear new indoor masks.

According to the county, about 40% of patients were actually hospitalized for COVID illness and about 60% were hospitalized for other reasons.
On Wednesday, the County Public Health Service reported an additional 15 virus-related deaths, in addition to 6,530 new infections.
With a steadily increasing number of hospitalizations, the county is on the verge of moving into a category of “high” COVID activity levels, as defined by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Feller told the supervisory board this week that the county is moving at a pace to reach “high” levels as early as Thursday.
If the county remains in the “High” category for two consecutive weeks, the mandatory indoor mask wearing obligation will be re-imposed on the county. At the current pace, it happens on July 29th.
Supervisor Kathryn Berger urged Feller and health authorities to reach out to local businesses and discuss the potential impact they may face.
Supervisor Sheila Kühl once again strongly supported the idea of demanding a mask, saying that those who don’t wear a mask are “not patient”.
“People just don’t wear them when they aren’t obliged,” Kuehl said.
