Monkeypox Investigated in Dallas County Prison – NBC5 Dallas Fort Worth
Sheriffs’ offices say Thursday that prisoners in Dallas County Prison are being tested for monkeypox after showing signs of illness.
“Individuals in custody were tested and the protocol was implemented as a precautionary measure,” the agency said in a news release.
Visitors are still allowed to visit prisoners, and no other changes have been made to the operation of the prison, said spokeswoman Jasmine Carter.
As of Tuesday, the Dallas County Department of Health and Human Services reported 14 cases of monkeypox with at least one local exposure.
Tarrant County confirmed two cases Ill and at least One case reported in Denton County..
How does monkeypox spread?
Monkeypox can spread through contact with shared items contaminated with fluid by a person with monkeypox, such as fluid, lesions, or bleeding.
