Bijan Avaz told CBS2’s Dave Carlin that he had been vaccinated with the first two monkeypox vaccines in Bronx on Sunday. On Saturday, he was checking the location of the vaccine set by the health department at Bronx High School.

“I have determined that the global monkeypox outbreak is a public health emergency of international concern,” said Dr. Tedros Adhanom Gebreez, director of WHO.
This announcement was made despite the lack of consensus among the organization’s advisory board.
“The outbreak continues to grow and currently more than 16,000 cases have been reported from 75 countries and territories,” said Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Of the 16,000 cases worldwide, New York City is the most common city in the United States, with 839 reported infections. Researchers believe that the actual numbers are higher.
New York City health officials say monkeypox cases are on the rise and more vaccines need to be given.
