Douglas County Health Department reports a fourth case of monkeypox

Omaha, Nebraska (WOWT)-Another suspected case of monkeypox was reported in Douglas County.according to Douglas County Health Department, Contact tracing has begun to identify and notify people who may have come into contact with an infected person.

This latest case of monkeypox was reported by the World Health Organization. International public health emergencies.

According to DCHD, the risk of monkeypox to the general public is still low. People with monkeypox symptoms, especially those with their characteristic rash, should contact their healthcare provider or health department.

On July 19, the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department reported the first estimated case of monkeypox in Lancaster County. Confirmation tests are currently being conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The person is a man in his thirties who has recently traveled outside of Nebraska. He is isolated at home. The Department of Health is currently investigating potential close contacts and will notify those who may have been exposed.

The disease spreads primarily through skin-to-skin contact with infected individuals. According to DCHD, anyone who has had skin-to-skin contact with an infected person for several minutes is at risk. It can also be spread by contact with the infected person’s rash, scab, or body fluids.

Monkeypox has a variety of symptoms, which can begin with fever, headache, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, and malaise.

The incubation period (the period between getting sick and the onset of symptoms) ranges from 5 days to 3 weeks.

There is no specific cure for monkeypox yet, but antivirals have long been used effectively. People exposed to this disease may be successfully vaccinated. DCHD states that the supply of vaccines available for this is limited.

According to DCHD, the global outbreak of monkeypox is disproportionately affecting men who have sex with men. It also affects people who meet their partners through websites, apps and social events.

To date, more than 16,000 cases have been reported worldwide, and more than 2,800 cases have been reported in the United States.
