Cincinnati (WXIX)-According to the Cincinnati Health Department, two positive cases of monkeypox have been identified in Cincinnati.
Dr. Maryse Amin, CHD Assistant Health Commissioner, explained the incident to the Cincinnati Health Commission at a meeting on Tuesday night.
According to the CDC, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported 17 cases of monkeypox in Ohio and 3,591 cases nationwide. Case map..
There are six cases in Kentucky. According to the CDC, Indiana has 33.
Cases of Cincinnati were identified through the patient’s healthcare provider. Healthcare providers requested and received monkeypox vaccines from national stockpiles, which were administered to close contacts of the patient.
The second case is under investigation, according to Dr. Kimberly Wright, CHD’s oversight epidemiologist.
