A person detained in a San Francisco County jail has suspected monkeypox, a sheriff’s office official said Friday.

“This individual, and other inmates with suspected or confirmed monkeypox, will be quarantined in accordance with public health quarantine recommendations,” San Francisco Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Tara Moriarty said. “The sheriff’s office has put in place procedures in place to ensure the safety of the individual and to ensure the safety of all persons, law enforcement officials and employees who come into contact with the person.”
