Brazilian health regulator Anvisa authorizes COVID-19 vaccine trial in China

SAO PAULO (Reuters)-According to the official gazette, Brazilian health authority Anvisa approved a clinical trial of a potential coronavirus vaccine developed by Sinovac of China on Friday.
The study, first published on June 11, is led by the Butantan Institute, a state-funded laboratory in the state of Sao Paulo. The agreement with Sinovac will include not only testing, but also the transfer of technology to produce potential vaccines locally.
On June 29, Sao Paulo Governor Joan Doria said 9,000 volunteers were already registered to test a vaccine against COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus. ..
According to Doria, the trials will be conducted by 12 research centers in six states in Brazil (Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Brasilia, Rio Grande do Sul, Parana).
Anvisa was approved after Brazil surpassed 1.5 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, making it the second worst outbreak after the United States, according to Ministry of Health data. The data show that deaths have increased by 1,290 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 63,174.
