New York State Expands Eligibility for Monkeypox Vaccine – The Daily Gazette
Schenectady – Schenectady County plans to administer at least 80 doses of the monkeypox vaccine, and the state announced Wednesday that it is now available to anyone at risk of contracting the virus.
The state Department of Health has announced plans to distribute 3,840 vials of monkeypox vaccine allocated by the federal government. This equates to at least 15,000. Each vial contains 4-5 doses.

Anyone can get monkeypox and it is spread primarily through close physical contact. Typical symptoms include rash, chills, fever and muscle fatigue, but the virus can lead to hospitalization and death if left untreated.
Certain groups, including gays, bisexuals, transgenders, and gender nonconforming men who have sex with men, are being affected more than others, according to the state. People who are pregnant, pregnant, and children under the age of 8 may be at higher risk of more serious symptoms if infected.
A total of 3,647 monkeypox cases have been confirmed statewide so far, with the majority occurring in New York City.
Ten cases have been confirmed in the metropolitan area, including one in Schenectady County and four in Albany County. No cases have been confirmed in Saratoga County in the Mohawk Valley, according to the latest state data.
