Mendoza warns flu cases could spike
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Influenza cases have been low in the last two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. is cited as a factor.
But what will this season look like now that masks have been removed and children and adults are returning to school and work?
Monroe County Public Health Director Dr. Michael Mendoza said the public should be prepared for a potential spike in flu cases in the fall and winter.
Mendoza recommends everyone who can get the flu vaccine and the new omicron booster shots.
“There is concern that very few people have immunity to influenza,” Mendoza said. “This year is more serious than usual,” he said.
So far, Mendoza said there has been no spike in COVID-19 cases since students returned to classrooms.
Monroe County is currently experiencing an average of 127 cases per day.
