Cancer mortality continues to fall, researchers report
Sept. 21, 2022 — Mortality from cancer in the United States continues to decline thanks to treatments, diagnostic tools and preventive strategies, the American Association for Cancer Research said Wednesday in its annual report. .

The report covers the period from August 1, 2021 to July 31, 2022 and found that:
- There are more than 18 million cancer survivors in the United States, reflecting the fact that more people live longer, fuller lives after being diagnosed.
- Death rates from cancer have fallen rapidly in recent years, declining by 2.3% annually from 2016 to 2019.
- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved eight anticancer treatments, including the first drug to treat uveal melanoma, the most common form of eye cancer in adults.
- The FDA also expanded the use of 10 anticancer drugs and approved two new imaging agents.
