Chinese scientists develop face masks that can detect Covid-19

Chinese scientists say they have developed a face mask that can detect Covid-19 in the air.

The mask warns the wearer if exposed to Covid-19 or the flu after talking to an infected person for 10 minutes.

A sensor attached to the mask can react to as little as 0.3 microliters of virus in the air, much smaller than the virus produced by coughing or sneezing.

The findings by researchers from Tongji University in Shanghai were reported in a scientific journal. case.

The team tested the masks in an enclosed room by spraying liquids and aerosols containing minute amounts of the virus.

They said the masks work well in confined spaces with poor ventilation, such as elevators and enclosed rooms.
