Sutton praises community response as monkeypox cases drop
The outbreak has so far affected men who have sex with men more, with symptoms much like sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis and herpes.
Australia’s HIV response leader Professor Andrew Grurich said monkeypox cases were declining in other parts of the world, including North America and Europe, after surges in July and August.
He added that despite the recent decline in infections, vaccination remains important.
“There is still an outbreak risk until vaccination is complete,” said Grulich.
