“DEFRA’s aim in tackling the avian influenza outbreak is to eradicate the disease from the UK poultry and farm bird populations as quickly as possible and restore disease-free status for the UK’s World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH).”
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) has called on governments to “immediately develop response plans” to mitigate the impact on the country’s bird populations.
The charity said in a previous statement: We also hope that measures will be taken to stop the unnecessary disturbance of wild birds affected by the virus.
“Long-term, we want to place a greater emphasis on prioritizing and funding seabird conservation. You will become more resilient.”
