SA Keiskamma Art Project on display – 130 women affected by HIV tell stories of pain and loss

More than 15 years after its completion, a South African art project from the small town of Hamburg in the Eastern Cape is finally on display in Johannesburg.

Nozeti Makhubalo, one of the artists involved in the giant tapestry, spoke about the hardships she faced after her husband was unable to support the family. Working on her artwork has been a healing experience for her.
“It heals you inside. It heals you through the needle and thread because you’re expressing yourself. It’s like coming out of the house and feeling too stressed and thinking, ‘What am I going to make tonight?’ I wonder,'” McBarro said, adding:
