Wisconsin DHS Further Expands Eligibility for Monkeypox Vaccine

Madison, Wisconsin (WMTV) – The Wisconsin Department of Health on Wednesday further expanded eligibility criteria for the monkeypox vaccine.
Following the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the new criteria will allow more people who may be at high risk of monkeypox to be vaccinated.
DHS says this is an important step in preventing the spread of the disease and will encourage all eligible Wisconsin residents to get vaccinated.
“Early data show that at least one dose of monkeypox vaccine provides some protection. It’s important that you take it,” said Chief Medical Officer Ryan Westergaard, PhD.
People newly targeted for vaccination include (DHS words):
- Future monkeypox exposure, including gay men, bisexual men, transgender men and women, all men who have sex with men, and gender nonconforming/nonbinary persons with newly diagnosed monkeypox People considered at increased risk One or more of the nationally reported sexually transmitted diseases (e.g., acute HIV, chancroid, chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis).
- Anyone who has attended or has had sex at a commercial sex venue or event where monkeypox transmission or exposure is known. Including sexual partners of persons at these risks or persons expected to experience these risks.
