Bird flu detected in New Haven County flock, officials say
NEW HAVEN COUNTY — Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), a deadly disease for birds, was detected in flocks in New Haven County on Tuesday, according to the Connecticut Department of Agriculture.
Officials said the flock consisted of turkeys, chickens and guinea pigs kept as pets. Samples taken from the herd were sent to the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Diagnostics Laboratory.
