TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Health officials say we may be entering a ferocious flu season.
Our country’s flu season is very similar to Australia’s, where the winter lasts from April to October. This year, the country is having its worst flu season in her five years, and health officials in our country and here in East Texas are recommending getting your flu shot as soon as possible.
George Roberts, CEO of the Northeast Texas Public Health District, said: “Normally, the flu season peaks in he January or he February, but for now I’m wondering if it will happen earlier this year.”
When it comes to vaccination, Roberts said, anyone older than 6 months can be vaccinated, with stronger vaccines being suggested for those 65 and older.
“Will the flu vaccine keep me from getting the flu? I can’t guarantee that,” Roberts said. “But the flu vaccine will keep your body in a less difficult condition than it would have been without the flu vaccine.”
Those eligible for the COVID-19 booster can get the booster and flu shot at the same time, Roberts said.
“Some people say it’s absolutely permissible. On the other hand, depending on how your body reacts…you might want to have them at different times. But yes, you can take a shot together.
The NET Health Immunizations Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 11am and from 1pm to 4pm.
Wednesday hours are 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM. The clinic is located at 815 North Broadway Avenue in Tyler.
