Broward Health forced to open overflow ICU unit after surge in respiratory illnesses in children
There’s usually a virus that looks like the common cold, but more serious viral cases are surging across the country, and doctors want parents to know what to look for.
Doctors issued a warning Tuesday as the virus affecting children spreads rapidly across the country.
“We’re doing this not to surprise the community, just to warn that this is on-going and needs to be prepared,” said Hector Rodriguez, chair of pediatrics at Broward Health Medical Center. Cortes, MD said.

For patients with heart disease, respiratory disease, or a weakened immune system, symptoms may be more severe and require hospitalization.
