Southern California birds test positive for bird flu
Six birds in Orange County have tested positive for bird flu, the Orange County Health Department announced.
The announcement comes a little over a week after the bird flu outbreak. Reported at Long Beach ParkTwo Canada geese and one black heron were confirmed to be infected.
The species of infected Orange County bird was not determined, nor was the exact location of the bird prior to testing.
“Bird flu is present in Orange County, and while the risk of human infection is low, residents should stay away from dead birds.” County Health Officer and HCA Chief Medical Officer says Regina Chinsio-Kwong, Ph.D. “Bird flu is highly contagious among birds and can sicken and even kill certain domestic bird species such as chickens, ducks and turkeys.”
