Michigan adds 16 monkeypox infections in 7 counties
Michigan confirmed 16 more monkeypox virus cases last week, increasing the total number of outbreaks by 5% to 327 known infections.
The latest weekly increase was larger than the national average (2%), but was consistent with the state’s weekly infection reports compiled by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
The new cases spread to seven counties, including Eaton County, which became the 23rd county to report the first confirmed infection. Other new cases were from Genesee, Ingham, Kent, McComb, Washtenaw and Wayne.
Monkeypox is a viral disease that causes a rash like acne and blisters. It is usually spread through close contact with an infected person or by touching shared objects, fabrics, or surfaces.
Health leaders around the world are noticing a decline in monkeypox infections across the country, but say low-level transmission of the virus may persist in the United States indefinitely. North America.

As of Tuesday, a total of 28,061 confirmed cases across the United States ranked Michigan 16th, well behind leaders California, New York, Florida, Texas and Georgia.
