Poor Sacramento County Test Impairs Ability to Track Increasing Spreads – Good Day Sacramento
SACRAMENTO (CBS13)—Sacramento doctors warn about lack of coronavirus testing.
County leaders will temporarily shut down five test sites. These sites include the Natomas Unified School District building in Arena Bald, South Sacramento Christian Center, Tette Child Health, Maple Neighborhood Center in La Familia, and Robertson Community Center.
Dr. Peter Beilenson, director of health at Sacramento County, said part of the concern about undertesting means that more people have the virus but don’t know it. He said the shortage is a national supply chain issue.
“The fact that the federal government hasn’t intervened to make sure this material is still available isn’t openly accepted at this time,” Berenson said.
Beilenson says the county now tests 16,000 coronaviruses weekly, but the county does more than double that–30,000 to 50,000 tests each week to properly track the increased spread. Said it should.
“There are multiple cases in the Latino community. Many of those people have been involved in family outings and expanding family gatherings,” Beilenson said.
Lack of testing can overly affect the Latino community. Beilenson warns that more than 50% of new cases come from people under the age of 40. It’s a problem group.
