RSV, Flu, COVID-19 Rising in San Diego, Hospitals Well Prepared

SAN DIEGO — Flu season typically peaks in the fall and winter, but San Diego County is currently dealing with RSV and COVID-19 cases.
Dr. Keith Jablonicki, who works in the emergency room at Sharp Memorial Hospital, said, “Yes, flu and RSV are high. We usually see a lot of RSV in the winter.
Dr. Yablonicky sees 6-10 RSV patients per day and 10 influenza patients per day in emergency care.
“It’s the same with the flu. As medical professionals, it’s nice to see more normalcy. It’s not great. People die from the flu, but that’s what we’ve experienced.” .
Dr. Yablonicky said upper respiratory tract infections accounted for 25% of patient visits, split evenly between RSV, influenza, and COVID-19.
“Most people who have the flu have high fevers of 102 or 103. Covid and RSV have low fevers of 99 and 100,” Dr. Jablonikki said.
