Health officials say now is the time to get the flu vaccine

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (WAVE) – With the holidays approaching, health officials said if you haven’t gotten your flu shot yet, now is the time.
Norton Healthcare said flu cases have spread rapidly over the past few weeks. State and national flu cases also show an increase in both adults and children.
Officials say the sooner you get vaccinated, the better.
“It takes about two weeks for the body to develop immunity after being vaccinated,” said Dr. Mary Rademaker, Norton Immediate Care Center Medical Director. “So the sooner people get it, the better, so they can build antibodies to protect.”
To support immunization efforts, Norton Healthcare is hosting two immunization events the weekend before Thanksgiving.
First up on November 19th was the COVID-19 Booster and Flu Vaccine Clinic at the Norton Healthcare Medical Clinic at 1001 Breckinridge Lane.
Between 7:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., people aged 5 and over can receive a bivalent COVID-19 booster, and people aged 3 and over can receive the flu vaccine.
Reservations are required for a COVID booster shot. Please bring your photo ID, COVID vaccination card (if applicable) and insurance card if you have insurance.
On November 20th, Norton Healthcare will host a walk-in flu vaccine clinic at Norton Community Medical Associates (1720 West Broadway) from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
People can walk and get a flu shot. Vaccinations are available from 6 months of age and older.
You don’t need insurance for the flu shot, but if you have insurance, please bring your insurance card.
Flu shots are also available at multiple locations, including Norton Prompt Care at Walgreens, Norton Express Services, and Norton Primary Care Providers, according to Norton Healthcare.
