MUMBAI: On Friday, the state implemented recommendations issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to implement additional vaccinations for children living in areas affected by the ongoing measles outbreak.
All children aged 9 months to 5 years living in vulnerable areas will receive a booster vaccination regardless of their immunization status. All children aged 6 to 9 months in these areas are also vaccinated to protect against infection.
“Additional vaccines will only be applied to 52 identified outbreak areas in the state, 22 of which are in Mumbai,” said Sanjay Kandale, chief secretary of the state government’s Department of Public Health.
