Yolo County recommends masking as RSV, flu and COVID cases rise
Yolo County, California (KTXL) — Due to an increase in hospitalizations and absenteeism from school and work due to respiratory illness in Yolo County, the Yolo County Health and Human Services Agency recommends wearing masks indoors.
The county said its indoor masking recommendations aren’t based on a single virus alone, but look at increasing levels of RSV, flu and COVID cases combined.
It also provides new signage as to why masking recommendations are being implemented for businesses in English and Spanish counties that are responding not just to COVID-19, but three different respiratory diseases.
“This winter is the first winter in several years to see significant influenza and RSV activity in addition to COVID-19. We are making masking recommendations,” Yolo County Health said. Officer Dr. Amy Sisson.
The announcement comes at the same time that Sacramento County has moved to the “Medium” phase of mask mandates for the California Department of Public Health.
All county prisons and homeless shelters have been placed under universal mask mandates, and members of the public are encouraged to wear masks in crowded and close quarters.
“According to the latest information we got from last week, the incidence rate is 12 cases per 100,000 cases and it continues to rise,” Kasirye said in a Zoom meeting on Wednesday.
School sites will implement universal masking if the county moves to high levels of COVID infection.
