Moderna and Merck Announce Joint Skin Cancer Vaccine Progress
December 13, 2022 — Moderna and Merck jointly announced progress on Tuesday on a drug combination to combat recurrences of melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer.
A potential vaccine is formed by combining messenger RNA (mRNA) technology (common in coronavirus vaccines) with Merck’s cancer immunotherapy drug Keytruda, the companies said.
Patients in the trial who received the combination had a 44 percent lower risk of recurrence or death compared to patients who received Keytruda alone.
