BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — Vacations should be a time of cheer and joy, but those suffering from the “winter blues” may not feel so cheery and upbeat.
Dr. Kelly Lohan is a professor of psychology at the University of Vermont. People with seasonal affective disorder (SAD) experience many of the same symptoms that people diagnosed with depression experience all year round, she said.
These include being very depressed, losing interest in things you used to enjoy, extreme fatigue, difficulty concentrating and making decisions, eating more or less than usual, feeling guilty about yourself, and extreme depression. Cases include suicidal thoughts and thoughts of death.

“For people with seasonal depression, the pandemic has certainly made things worse in terms of increased symptoms of depression,” Lohan said. It starts earlier and lasts longer than it does—all year round, even in the summer when people with seasonal depression usually feel good and return to their normal selves—just prolonging pandemic-related stress, and their Some of the symptoms have not been fully resolved with the methods used before the pandemic.”

First, work hard to overcome fatigue and continue with your daily routine as much as possible.
Then find something to celebrate in winter and focus on activities like ice skating and skiing.
Finally, she suggests going for a walk first thing in the morning after sunrise. That way, your body gets the sunlight it needs to regulate its internal clock and reap the physical benefits of exercise.
