Studies show smoking leads to memory loss, cognitive decline
Dec 22, 2022 — Researchers have discovered another reason why you shouldn’t smoke, and why if you do, you should quit.
Smokers are more likely to report memory impairment and cognitive decline in middle age, according to an Ohio State University study. The study results also noted that ex-smokers who quit were less likely to experience cognitive decline.
The study is consistent with previous findings linking smoking and dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. However, the latest research could also help set red flags early in life, says Jenna Rajczyk, the study’s lead author. This research Alzheimer’s Journal.
