Natalie Walker, a nurse practitioner at the Great Lakes Recovery Center, says one way to safely increase your vitamin D levels is to buy an over-the-counter supplement.

Health care experts also said that the summer months are a time when people in this far north begin to produce vitamin D naturally, due to increased exposure to sunlight. She says it’s important to speak up when you’re feeling down.
