Local authorities want to support the outbreak of farms
The Windsor-Essex farm has been hit hard by COVID-19, with four occurring now.
Hundreds of migrant workers have tested positive for the virus, killing three. Two of them died in Windsor Essex and one died in Norfolk County.
Two more farm workers tested positive on Friday, according to the Windsor-Essex health unit.
Lambton County health officials said they provided a voluntary field test to farms in the area that hire temporary foreign or seasonal workers.
Of the 86 tests completed on six farms in the last two weeks, 84 were negative and two were still pending, the health agency said.
Lambton County is expecting 200 to 300 temporary foreign workers to arrive at local farms for seasonal work, it said.
In a statement, Dr. Sudiranade, county health officer, said, “The reaction is positive and we regularly discuss with local farm owners how to prevent COVID-19 infections and manage the risk of their outbreak. “.
Ontario reported 116 new cases of COVID-19 and seven new deaths from the new coronavirus on Friday.
Currently, there are 36,464 cases, including 32,155 and 2,710 deaths marked as resolved.
The state also today reports 178 newly resolved cases. Over 27,484 tests of the new coronavirus have been completed in the last 24 hours.
While the number of people hospitalized for the virus decreased slightly, both those receiving intensive care and those on mechanical ventilation increased slightly.
The outbreak of farms has delayed economic resumption in the Windsor Essex area, especially in the towns of Leamington and Kingsville, the last two communities to reach Stage 2 this week.
Last week, the Government of Ontario deployed a team of emergency management agencies to help care and adjust housing for farm workers who tested positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, Ford planned to appear at the company multiple times on Friday and thank the workers in Ontario for their services during the pandemic.
The Prime Minister, along with Vic Federie, Minister for Economic Development, promoted a program to help the Ontarians identify products made in the state to revitalize the local economy.
Operated by a Canadian manufacturer and exporter organization, the Ontario Made program receives $500,000 state funding through the Ontario Together Fund launched in April.
