Fort Worth, Texas – A North Texas woman has been called a hero after using CPR training she got from her work with the American Heart Association to save a man who had a heart attack while walking down the same road.

Brooke Berryman and her friend and workout buddy Lee were walking the Trinity River Trail in Fort Worth a few weeks ago when they came across a man with some people on the ground. She clearly says it was a medical emergency.

“She asked me, ‘Should we go there? ‘ And my instinct was no, there’s four people there,” she recalls.

Berryman is the director of the Fort Worth American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative.

“But you wouldn’t think it would be me. I’m not. There are people who got there before us. They don’t need me,” she said. My friend was the catalyst and said no. They do.”

Berryman took over immediately and began CPR until paramedics arrived. A man who suffered a heart attack while riding a bicycle has requested anonymity. He is currently recuperating at home.
