South Dakota Active COVID-19 Cases Decline for Fourth Consecutive Day

Pierre, South Dakota — Forty-five new South Dakota residents have COVID-19 contracts, according to data released by the State Department of Health on Sunday morning, July 12.

The state reported the results of 1,002 tests, 4.5% of which were positive. Cumulative rate of positive tests in South Dakota is 8.3%

For the entire state, there are 868 active cases of COVID-19 that have decreased over the past four days. 183 people aged 20 to 29 are currently positive for COVID-19, making it the most positive of all age groups in South Dakota. There are over 3,000 cases in individuals aged 20 to 39 years.

The total number of cases in South Dakota is 7,499. The state reported no new deaths as a result of the virus, totaling 109.

Residents over the age of 80 were the most affected by the virus, accounting for the most deaths and least recovery of any age group.

Seven counties in the state aggregate the total for three-digit cases. Minnehaha County, which includes Sioux Falls, records half the total number of cases in the state as 3,756. In Pennington County, Rapid City, 635 cases of COVID-19 have been recorded. Huedle’s Beadle County totals 553, making it the only county in the state with over 500 counties. Lincoln and Brown counties have more than 300 cases, while Union and Ogulararakota have more than 100 cases each.

A dozen South Dakotans were discharged on Sunday. There are currently 53 hospital admissions, with COVID-19 patients using 2% of state hospital beds, 4% of ICU beds, and 6% of ventilators.
