Facing death from cancer made me appreciate my loved ones
I am a very lucky and blessed person. My cancer story is unusual for my type of cancer. I got ovarian cancer when he was 37 — 25 years ago.
According to the information I read on the Internet at the time of my diagnosis, I had two years to live. She read and cried. my daughter she was 14 years old. Far from seeing her daughter grow and become independent, she couldn’t even see her drive. My doctor advised me not to put too much faith in the published data as it was all five years old for her and is not accurate at this time.
I traveled through therapy and life day by day. I was afraid to die. I was worried about getting sick. I was worried about my daughter. And I was very sick. I lamented my hair loss and worried that I would never be able to have adult physical relationships again.
I had a hysterectomy and four rounds of chemotherapy. I wanted to stop chemotherapy after his second treatment, but thankfully my oncologist and I had a conversation and he was on track with the plans we made. Over time, I came to accept my illness and the possibility of death.
I was so grateful for the life I had lived and felt joy in the journey of the rest of my life with my whole family and loved ones. It has become very representative. Even now, when I hear it, it takes me back to those days and I feel joy and gratitude for my life. I was overwhelmed with gratitude for my daughter and family, for the love we shared with them, and for all the beauty of this world and the small joys we encountered. I will miss this life… probably. I have faith and hope that there is life after death, but it is unclear what exactly that is, and it is difficult to leave this life in the unknown.
I hadn’t lost anyone close to me before my treatment and diagnosis, so I don’t think I understood the grief, but two years after my diagnosis, I lost my mother. never leave. Now I understand why she had a hard time hearing me discuss the likelihood of my death and what she wanted for her daughter if I didn’t survive. The thought was intolerable to her. Now i understand it. Before she lost her mother, it wasn’t. I thought I could imagine it, but I couldn’t.
I’m still grateful to be alive and trying to appreciate the wonders of this world, but I have to admit that I think very little of it these days. Absolutely.
