Fox that bit six people in Brighton tests positive for rabies
The Monroe County Public Health Department announced Tuesday that a fox that bit six people in Brighton on April 21 has tested positive for rabies.
Brighton police said last week that the incident occurred south of the 12th Corner precinct, and health officials said the fox occurred near homes on Holyvale Drive and Tilstone Place before being killed by law enforcement. He said.
Rabies is a viral disease that can be fatal if left untreated in infected people or pets. Those who did not touch the fox are not in danger.
The County Health Department is urging anyone who has been in physical contact with a fox in the Brighton area in the last week to talk to their healthcare provider and report the incident to the county’s Rabies Control Program at 585-753-5171.
