1. Make sure your child is protected
“Most sun damage occurs in childhood and manifests later as skin cancer,” says Nakhla. “Therefore, it is important to protect children from sunburn and overexposure to the sun.”

“Light skin types are more prone to developing skin cancer, but all skin types can develop skin cancer, including the deadliest type, melanoma,” explains Nacra.

5. When in doubt, look it up
This is the mantra of skin cancer experts who recommend keeping an eye out for moles (especially if you have many) and noting any changes in shape, size, color, or texture.
