Charity predicts mental health to be “more likely to deteriorate”, making pandemic children “isolated and lonely”
More than one-third of Welsh parents say their children are lonely and lonely because of new data lockdowns.
It has also been reported that many children are anxious and unable to sleep, bedwetting, or frightening anyone other than their family members.
A study conducted by YouGov for charity action for children revealed that families across the UK were having a hard time dealing with lockdowns.
Charities have called for prioritizing the mental health of children, as the government warns that things are likely to get worse.
YouGov surveyed more than 2000 British parents, including 139 in Wales, and asked how they and their children were dealing with them during the lockdown.
About 40% of Welsh parents worry their children feel lonely after being locked down for more than three months.
Some of the moms and dads of the reported experiences are “persistent and uncertain” rather than “we don’t want to go out” with the children having “bedwetting”. Others reported that their children were “worried” outside their homes, “frustrated”, and “frightened people”.
It also affects their parents’ mental health, about half being uneasy about supporting their children, and 29% felt “from their depth.”
Many said they also experienced the same loneliness and sleep problems as their children.
Even with deregulation, surveys have revealed that some parents fear weeks or months ahead.
Two in five said their children had a hard time socializing and were worried about staying home.
As we move out of lockdown and the long-term effects of a pandemic become more apparent, actions for children are “warning that things can get worse.”
Using the charity’s online parenting advice service, we saw a huge surge of 415% during the lockdown compared to the same period in 2019. This service provides parents with free hands-on advice and emotional support from trained coaches.
