After three heart attacks, meteorologists wish for clear weather

Tuesday, July 14, 2020 (American Heart Association News)-Meteorologist Mark Larson was preparing for a noon TV show in Wichita, Kansas, but began to feel fog and fatigue. Out of nowhere, a sharp pain stabbed inside my left elbow.

He knew he wasn’t fit to appear on the broadcast and went to a news director who immediately noticed Larson’s pasty skin and painful look.

“Sit down and raise your feet,” said the news director. “You have a heart attack.”

At the hospital, Larson found a large blockage in two arteries. A stent was inserted into each to increase blood flow to the heart.

After he recovered, “I felt like Superman,” he said. “I didn’t feel so good for months.”

Looking back, I realized that something was wrong.

Like a marathon, he ran six months ago. It was his third, but the first he had a hard time completing.

“My wife ran for six miles with me that day,” he said. “That’s not the wisest thing to think of, later.”

He also remembered having more naps and dizziness after climbing stairs and dizziness.

Larson led an active lifestyle and usually maintained a healthy weight, but had a family history of heart disease.

Exactly a year ago, a 63-year-old father with high blood pressure died of a heart attack. His mother, who also had high blood pressure and heart valve replacement, died in his 70s due to suspected heart problems. His grandfather also died of a stroke complication in the 1970s.

His cardiologist, Dr. Rabi Bajaj, warned that Larson’s heart had no permanent damage, but “you have a healthy heart, but this may happen again”. Said.

The doctor was right.

Larson became the second in 2010 and the third in 2017 since the first heart attack in 2000. Throughout his life, Larson has been taking medicine to maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent blood clots.

His physical condition allowed him to survive a heart attack and speed recovery, but unfortunately he was unable to diet or exercise his genetics.

The second heart attack happened shortly after he had a basketball game at a hot gym during the summer.

“The whole family was out of town, and when I got home, I had to crawl into the house from the garage car, there was a very unbearable pain in my chest,” he said. Said. He managed to call 911. Another stent was placed in the hospital.

He thought he was the most serious after a heart attack after the fourth stent was implanted three years ago.

“I had been to the gym but I was really tired and couldn’t finish my set,” he said.

When he got home, he called his wife to say he knew something was wrong. She rushed home to work and found him on the floor with no discernible pulse. She ran up to the firefighter’s neighbor, went to his side, and called 911.

Mr. Larson, now 61, said cardiologists are graded as “A-minus.”

“He wants me to continue working, so he gives me a minus,” he said. “He says,’Do what you can and the rest just deal with it when it comes.'”

Mr Larson, who will retire next year, said he is optimistic about his faith and family-he and his wife have three grown-up children.

“If you didn’t say you were shaking your (golf) club too hard and your shoulders were hurt, you would be lying. Do you need a massage or a cardiologist?” he said. “But I chose not to be morbid or depressive about it. To be honest, it’s more difficult for my children and relatives.”

His children may worry him, but he is active in monitoring his heart health because his only biological son, Wayne, is “in his gene pool.” I also know what I have to do.

At the age of 32, Wayne had long been a frequent focus on diet and exercise. He also went for regular checkups and his family history with his doctor.

“My doctor says I’m as healthy as I can, so I trust it,” he said.

Wayne appreciates how his father uses his media platform to promote a healthy mental lifestyle. “I think there are better people because of that,” he said.
