Influenza is a sporadic coronavirus as COVID-19 continues to spread

Huntington — After an early peak, the region is still experiencing sporadic influenza activity as the “flu season” ends and the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread.

Influenza is sporadic in 48 states, including West Virginia and Ohio, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Summer marks the end of the “flu season” and the CDC is already heading for the next flu season. The vaccine has been updated to reflect the expected virus strains for the coming season.

The CDC says it’s too early to get a vaccine for the new flu season, especially for the elderly. The best time to go is September or October, but the CDC also says that vaccination should continue as long as there is influenza activity.

For the COVID-19 virus, the CDC says it’s more important than ever to have an influenza vaccine. It is possible to have both influenza (or other respiratory illness) and COVID-19, but how common it is is still under study.

Symptoms of influenza and COVID-19 are similar. However, the loss of taste and aroma is unique to COVID-19. People with COVID-19 seem to be more infectious than people with the flu.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 continues to grow.

The Cabell-Huntington Health Department reported 82 active cases on Tuesday, bringing the total to close to 200.

Statewide, 94 new positive cases were reported in West Virginia on Tuesday, for a total of 4,407. The total death toll remained at 97.

Hospitalization has been increasing for the past few days. As of Monday, 63 were hospitalized for COVID-19, 22 were in the ICU, and 8 were on the ventilator.

In Ohio, Lawrence County Health Department reported one new positive case of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total number of active cases to 40. There were a total of 108 positive cases.

In Kentucky, the Ashland Boyd County Department of Health reported four new positive cases on Tuesday. 22-year-old female and 45-year-old female (both at home), 43-year-old male and 90-year-old hospitalized 1-year-old male. Currently, the total number of active cases is 40.

There were 576 positive cases reported throughout the state, with a total of 20,223 and 6 new deaths. The total is 635. The deaths reported on Tuesday include a 44-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man from Carter County. From Floyd County.

Over 58,000 new cases of COVID-19 were reported across the United States on Tuesday, according to the CDC, bringing the total number of cases in the United States to 3,355,457. There are 135,235 deaths associated with this virus.
