UAB Diet Study Investigates Effects on Aging Process

UAB researchers have focused on two weight loss methods they claim may slow down the aging process, which will no doubt catch the attention of people around the world. “But it’s hot, so that’s a good thing,” says Keondle Bailey, who lives in Birmingham. “Just let your body relax and let your body go easy.” One way is calorie restriction, which reduces the number of calories you burn each day. Another is intermittent fasting. This means fasting 16 hours a day, 6 days a week, and eating dinner by 6pm. ”Chronic disease? ‘ says Courtney Peterson of the UAB Office of Science and Nutrition. Some participants are lucky enough to maintain a normal diet. It’s all randomly selected by the computer. The study also looked at how sustainable different weight loss methods actually are. “And it turned out to be really difficult,” Peterson added. “It’s hard to count calories. So what we’re looking at here with intermittent fasting is, isn’t this a better approach? Instead of counting calories, we’re just people. I’m just telling you to count the hours.” Health-wise, weight loss has been shown to help anti-aging. “They asked people to cut calories by 25 percent over two years, and it’s incredibly difficult to do,” Peterson said. On average, she says, people are only able to reduce their caloric intake by about half. The duration of the UAB study is much shorter, just 6 months for each participant. “And we believe this study will lead to the largest nutritional study aimed at slowing the aging process in the United States,” says Peterson. UAB is recruiting participants between the ages of 25-45 and BMI between her 22-30. Participants will receive a $1,500 scholarship. “Could either one of these two approaches make people biologically younger, and even help them live longer without chronic disease?” says Courtney Peterson of the UAB Office of Science and Nutrition.

A previous study by the National Institutes of Health found that weight loss actually helps prevent aging.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price.
